We redesigned our science courses adding Mastering to provide students with a tool to help them prepare for class and get help when they need it the most. Prelecture homework assignments engage students in course content outside of class and better prepare them for lecture.
Mastering default grading is designed to reward honest work. Statistically, students who use hints when they need them get higher final grades even when professors charge a penalty for opening hints.

The study tool helped me succeed. The flash cards helped me learn the information. I am a visual learner, and the videos helped me to understand the context. I liked having access to the eText so that I wouldn’t have to carry around textbooks. I also used the multiple choice and true/false quizzes to study.
