Switching Between Versions - Discussion - Minecraft: Java Edition ...
Why does Minecraft "crash" when I switch versions? How do I create a separate folder for new profiles in the Launcher? If you are getting problems when switching between versions, it usually means that a shared config file is not compatible between versions. To get around that, create each version with a private profile in the Launcher.

<Solved> Can't select older versions for installation - Java Edition ...
On the launcher landing page, find your saved installation in the list and click it to change to that version of the game. I get to step 2 and although older versions of Minecraft are listed, I cannot select them and it defaults to 1.18. To be clear, 1.18 appears to work just fine, it is the older versions of Minecraft I need.

How to switch between different mod packs? - Minecraft Forum
In the stock launcher, you ought to make a new profile and point the game directory to a unique folder on your computer. Just have it launch the version of forge for the pack, and put the mods/configs in said unique folder.. Since they are separate profiles you can then just use the profile drop down to choose what pack/version to run. This is also good for running different versions of ...
